Cream Slice Diffuser
After earlier experiments with new diffuser setups for the Canon MT-24ex Twin Flash this year, my last attempt at a diffuser for the flash was made from a Sainsbury’s Cream Slice box. One definite plus was the eating of said cream slice.
The idea behind this diffuser was to diffuse the flash on insects in the field, whilst having a less bulky set up to the Poppadom Diffuser – which spooks some subjects and is not so handy for subjects in vegetation.
This is how I made it. Apologies for image quality – they are from my phone.
1) Purchase cream slices, then eat them.
2)Take and was the plastic holders out.
3) Cut the holder in half
4) Line with vellum paper – and I also put a loop roll of vellum inside to act as extra diffusion.
5) Line the sides as well and then it is attached to the flash head with some sticky tape.
6) Finally for extra spread after initial trial I added an extra loop outside the diffuser. Repeat for the other lamp

The results are good from this diffuser – shooting with ETTL. There is some light hotspots that have got through – so the diffusion is not quiet as good as the poppadom version – which was more of a tent like design ( I still use this one on still life subjects), though the two more prominent hotspots in the dragonfly about are in fact sun spots. Being more compact has made it more usable with more flitty subjects. I do believe that the vellum outer loop is key, and will experiment again with some other setups in the future.
