Sopley Selection

This selection of macro shots were taken at Dorset Wildlife Trusts Sopley Common Nature Reserve.  This is a heathland reserve.  On a Sunny August afternoon the butterflies were out and about on the heather.

Using my Canon 100mm lens, and the camera on the small Manfrotto Befree tripod, I was able to get some shots of the butterflies as they rested.  All shots are just natural light in this post, no flash used, due to the stability the tripod gave and nice available light.

Nearby on a grass stem a type of Veneer moth was hanging about.

Further around on one of the boardwalks, I came across two mating grasshoppers.  Lying down on the boards, and after picking some of the more intrusive grass stems out of the way, I took this 7 shot stack of the pair.  This stack I took hand held, and processed in Helicon Focus.

The other stack I took today, was another mating pair – this time Rhododendron Leaferhoppers.  This 5 shots stack was taken with the support of the tripod, and also processed in Helicon Focus.

I've been taking macro photography from 2004. I use both Canon film and digital cameras.
