FerroLiquid
I got some Ferroliquid as a present for Christmas. Ferroliquid is an oily magnetic liquid, that when you put it on magnetised metal or near a magnet itself, it forms interesting magnetic spikes, that when photographed up close, give interesting results I think. One thing to note – is this is messy stuff, I wore some gloves and old clothes when handling it. Also – don’t put it in direct contact with the magnet – you’ll never get it off it again.
I used several magnetised objects to take the following images. To light the images I used flash (to keep the shot sharp, as I was indoors in poor light),with some gels for colour – and light from a video lamp which reflected against some old cds in the background, plus some neon strip lights also bouncing in colour.
Below is a short video showing the setup of the shots and a slideshow of some of the images in this post.
And lastly onto the photos – all taken using my Canon MPE-65mm 1-5x macro lens and Canon 5D Mark IV. Flash was from a diffused and gelled Yongnuo YN24-ex Twin Flash.
