Macro Dig at Roydon Woods.

Went on a macro digging expedition, as I like to call it at Roydon Woods on Sunday.

Not really digging as such, but rooting around leaf  litter and old logs looking for small bugs.  Had some success at finding some more Springtails, and a tiny Spider.

The best two shots are shown below.

First a springtail, crawling across one of my kit essentials – a Linpix Photography Mat (a ground sheet mat that is water proof, folds up small and clips on to my bag) .  You could do it cheaper with bin bags I guess, but I got it as a present – so it was free for me anyway.  I use it a lot too, especially in early spring, autumn when the ground is wet.

Canon EOS 50D (65mm, f/11, 1/250 sec, ISO400)

Globular Springtail at about 4 times magnification crawling across my mat, on Canon 50D with Canon MPE-65mm.  F11 ISO 400, Flash manual 1/8th power from Canon MT-24ex Macro Flash.  This one was mega small, don’t think it’s as good as my previous ones on Saturday, but was quite pleased I got anything as looking through the view finder I could mostly see black, with a dark blur moving in it!

And my best shot of the tiny spider found in on the bark of an fallen tree.  It’s fangs would be scary if it were bigger.  This little spider was only about 1/2 cm long.
